Munich City Guide
Last week, we visited friends and collaborators in Berlin’s rival city, Munich. We know that Munich isn’t exactly “cool” in the eyes of Berliners, so we wanted to share the studios, community-builders, experience curators and places that inspire us there in the hope of giving you a new perspective on a city you thought you knew.

Session Labs - Session was the first recovery studio to open in Munich. Founded by Sonja Weber, who cut her teeth working at studios in Berlin, Session is as stylish and effortlessly cool as she is. At Session, you can experience everything from cold plunges and infrared sauna sessions to sound baths and red light pilates.
Velvet House - Velvet House is a new yoga studio in Giesing that just opened in January of this year. In a city overrun by studios that all look the same, Velvet House is a yoga studio with so much heart and personal touches. We loved attending a nourishing evening Vinyasa class with Anna Rötzer, one of the studio’s founders.
Hairu Studio - Although we didn’t get a chance to visit this time around, we were really inspired by Hairu Studio’s programming which includes a wide range of yoga styles from Asthanga Mysore to Hatha, as well as sound healing, yin and somatics. Plus our collaborator Meike Petermann is now teaching Shake the Dust™ at Hairu every Friday afternoon.
Alchemy Sound Studio - Before sound healing became a staple at most Berlin studios, Munich already had a dedicated studio for sound healing. Alchemy Studio by Irina Sterna regularly hosts sound baths and sound healing trainings, plus features a shop with a beautiful collection of Alchemy Crystal Bowls.
Yoga Nebenan - The team behind Yoga Nebenan hosts yoga classes in unique locations all around Munich. In addition to their regular classes, they also host occasional workshops like foraging walks with one their founders Pauline Popp, and weekend retreats in beautiful locations close to Munich.
Gigi Room Ceramics - Gigi Room Ceramics was founded by Turkish ceramicist and experience designer Gizem Sırmalı. Gizem regularly hosts inspiring events that invite people to connect over clay, drinks and good food.
Lost Girls - Sina Scherer and Esra Gülmez are the two women behind Lost Girls - a project creating FLINTA* spaces that celebrate queer culture and community in the city. They host weekly community dinners and regularly take-over bars and clubs for FLINTA* dance parties.
Das Metta - This gluten-free and vegan bakery features different breads and baked goods, as well as simple lunches, coffee and matcha. Das Metta is not just a café, it’s also an event space, regularly hosting yoga classes from Yoga Nebenan.
Tushita Teehaus - This cozy tea house which was recommended to us by Yasemin Vollmond quickly became a new favorite. Tushita serves a wide variety of tea and matcha, as well as a daily lunches inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine. Their shop has everything from teaware to Japanese incense. Plus they have a regular event schedule including tea ceremonies, sound baths and workshops. Check out their event schedule here.
Caos Coffee - Caos was a café we simply kept coming back to when we visited Munich earlier this spring for their iced matchas and sleek aesthetic. If you’re in Munich missing Berlin, you can always go to Caos to feel at home in their graffiti-covered walls.
