BROWN MADONNA: Apparition As Embodied Practice

  • SAVVY Contemporary Reinickendorfer Str. 17, 13347 Berlin Germany (map)

Curator Anna Bernice de los Reyes collaborates with SAVVY contemporary to invite Filipino choreographer, performer, and mindfulness meditation coach Ea Torrado to present BROWN MADONNA: APPARITION AS EMBODIED PRACTICE. This workshop will guide participants through the artist’s somatic movement practice that formed her performance piece, Brown Madonna, following its Berlin premiere at Sophiensaele.

Drawing from a brown, queer, post-colonial experience, Daloy Movement is Torrado's practice of embodied resistance and radical joy, developed through her work with Daloy Dance Company. Rather than teaching set choreography, Ea shares how she enters a state of attunement — sensing, listening, and allowing characters to emerge in the body through movement and voice. The workshop approaches the idea of “union” as an embodied process: a negotiation between self, other, and the forces we carry. Participants engage in guided improvisational scores using Daloy Movement to access depth, responsiveness, and imagination. This workshop slows the body into presence and relation, creating space to reimagine identity and how we can attune our body to become more in relation with our environment.

This workshop is an offering and invitation: a set of questions and movements made available for participants to take up, adapt, and carry forward in whatever shape suits them.

All levels are welcome; no previous dance or movement experience required.

RSVP: email workshop@savvy-contemporary.com with subject line “Brown Madonna”

Tickets: Free entry, recommended 10-20€ donation to instructor
