La Voix Humaine Workshop by Daniel Prieto

  • ERD-Geschoss Mahlsdorf 10 Bausdorfstraße Berlin, BE, 12621 Germany (map)

Hosted by Daniel Prieto

The Human Voice is a technique developed by Daniel Prieto, which uses the voice as a tool for self awareness and personal growth. It is based on the principle that the voice contains a wealth of  information about who we are, reflecting our personal history.

At the start of the workshop, Daniel invites the whole group to reconnect the voice with the rest of  the body through various physical, vocal and breathing exercises. We then work in a specialised and personalised manner with each participant, with the presence and support of the whole group. Thus, whether in a group or individually, each person will discover areas within themselves that are  forgotten, inhibited or blocked at all levels (mental, emotional and physical) and which are closely  linked, consciously or unconsciously, to our social roles, upbringing, fears, etc.

Under Daniels’s guidance, the participant will undertake a unique vocal exploration, enabling them  to discover new sounds and possibilities, with the aim of moving beyond their usual patterns and  limitations to find a more authentic, complete and human form of expression.

Daniel guides us into the depths of our inner selves, with the aim of connecting with our genetic  histories, inherited from past generations, so that we may bring about profound inner change and  free ourselves from stories that no longer belong to us, nor to future generations. This is a unique experience, in which Daniel acts as a guide on a journey into the depths of our  inner selves, using our own voice as the path.

This experience allows you to see and better understand, at a cellular level, the defence and  protection mechanisms we adopt to cope with life’s circumstances, and to realise that we possess  sources of energy far beyond the limits imposed by the mind.

The human voice is not a label but a proposal.

Difficult to contextualise, difficult to describe.

About the facilitator

Daniel Prieto, born in Lima, Peru, has lived in Paris for over thirty years and has been working with this technique since the 1980s. He studied at the University of Villa Real and later gained experience as a stage director, actor, and comedian.

La Voix Humaine began in 1985 as a theatrical exploration of the human voice in relation to each key on the piano. This exploration was inspired by Alfred Wolfsohn, who served in the First World War, where he cared for the wounded.

After a bomb exploded beside him, leaving him surrounded only by the cries of those dying around him, he fell into a state of shock. Following a period of recovery from this trauma, he began to question why humans make these sounds in moments of pain before death—and how these sounds might be used to serve life.

This inquiry led him, in the 1950s, to London, where he formed a study group. After his death in 1960, Roy Hart continued his work, developing it further in a theatrical direction in the south of France.

In the 1970’s Daniel became a member of the Roy Hart Theatre. It was within this environment, together with others, that his own research into the voice began to take shape.

In the 1980s, members of the group went their separate ways, each continuing and transmitting the work in their own way. It was during this time that Daniel Prieto’s own work, The Human Voice, emerged. During the course of the last three decades, Daniel has offered La Voix Humaine workshops throughout Latin America, Europe, and North America.
