Hosted by Franziska from Atelier Kyō and Teeraum Sanvian
In this sensory tasting journey, we will explore the depth and variety of single-origin matcha.
After a short introduction into the history, cultivation and grading of Japanese matcha, we will taste 4 carefully selected matcha varieties sourced straight from the renown Uji region - from smooth and umami-rich to bright and astringent. While most matcha nowadays is blended from different farms and cultivars, we will discover the essential flavours and cultivation differences between native cultivars like Okumidori, Gokou, Asanoka, and Uji Hikari.
Whether you’re new to matcha or want to learn more about your favourite tea, you’ll leave this session with a refined palate, a better understanding of tea cultivars, and a deeper appreciation for truly authentic Japanese matcha.
What’s included:
Insight into the history, cultivation and grading of Japanese matcha
Preparation of 4 distinct single-origin matcha varieties
Japanese sweets to accompany the tasting
Single-cultivar matcha samples to take home
